Minor League Opening Day

In case you missed it while the Pirates were losing to the Dodgers, the minor league season kicked off. The Triple A team got slaughtered even though Tabata got a hit, Alvarez hit a two run homer, and Pierce went 3 for 4. They still got destroyed giving up just shy of 20.

The Double A Altoona squad won 5-1 with Mercer playing third and racking up two hits, D’Arnaud playing short and getting a hit, scoring a run, and driving in a run. And Harrison played second. Perhaps even better was Crotta throwing six solid innings, and Daniel Moskos throwing the last two innings of the game. I think this could be a good sign.

However our Super Team in the Minors is our High A Braedeton Pirates. They lived up to the hype I have put on them by hanging 18 runs on their opponent. The amazing outfield of Grossmann, Marte, and Latimore went an impressive 7 out of 11 with 10 runs, 6 RBIs, and 2 HRs. Oh yeah, first round pick Sanchez had 2 for 4 day as well. Bryan Morris pitched 4.2 allowing no earned runs, but two runs did score on a throwing error. Hanrahan struck out two in his first inning of rehab work. It was a good day for the Pirates and their future.
