The Pirates won today to get back above .500 with a victory over Dan Haren and the Diamondbacks. The Pirates skipped McCutchen in the rotation to get back to Duke. There are some real good signs from this game such as the continued good pitching from the pen and from Zack Duke. The Pirates got big hits from Jeff Clement and Iwamura which left the yard and a timely RBI basehit by Cedano. The bad sign is that Andrew McCutchen is not doing all that well. A 1-5 day saw his average dip into the .220's. If the Pirates have a real chance at success they need him to do better. You can't live off of Cedano forever.

If you are keeping track of the Pirate prospects here are a few you might want to note as of today. Robbie Grossman still hitting .500 and the Bradenton Mauraders are a perfect 3-0. Alderson struck out 2 in 5 scoreless innings, and that game ended with Daniel Moskos picking up the win to keep the Altoona Curve perfect. The game also saw Jim Negyrich play leftfield. Jordy Mercer by the way is hitting over .400.
